Transracial Adoption Family Camp: TRJ Family Camp 2025

It’s time to come back home to camp! TRJ Family Camp 2025 is here, and we are thrilled to welcome new and returning families for four incredible days of connection, learning, and joy. This year’s theme, “Together on the Journey,” reflects our commitment to walking alongside one another in the complexities of race, adoption, and identity—ensuring that no family, and no child, walks alone.

Camp wouldn’t be camp without the traditions we all love! From our legendary Camp Talent Show to creative activities, powerful learning sessions, and the return of our beloved counselors and presenters, this summer will be filled with opportunities to grow, laugh, and build lifelong connections. Together, we will continue the work of navigating the complexities that can come with adoption, family separation, and racial difference—while celebrating all the things that make our families beautifully unique.

Blended: Together on the Journey

In addition to our traditional programming, we are excited to go deeper with a focus on hair, skin, and self-care as essential parts of identity, connection, and belonging.

For transracially adopted children and youth, learning to care for curly and coily hair, understanding melanin-rich skin, and embracing self-care are not just about routine—they are acts of self-love, cultural pride, and confidence-building. Through presentations, hands-on demonstrations, and panel discussions, families will have opportunities to:

🌿 Learn practical hair care techniques—from detangling and protective styles to product recommendations for different textures.
🌞 Explore skin care practices designed to nourish and celebrate different skin tones, helping children feel comfortable and confident in their own skin.
🧘🏾 Engage in mindfulness, meditation, and breathwork—practices that support emotional well-being, self-acceptance, and the deepening of family connections.

Through these new offerings, we aim to blend self-care with cultural empowerment, ensuring that every child sees themselves reflected, valued, and celebrated—inside and out.

Camp will be held July 31 – August 3, 2025, at Ohio University, and space is limited to 40 families. Given how quickly camp fills up, we strongly encourage you to register as soon as possible to secure your spot. Once we reach capacity, we will create a waiting list.

Registration is now open! Please note, we will only be accepting 40 families in total and camp sells out quickly, we encourage your family to register as quickly as possible.   We will create a waiting list once camp sells out.

If a family is unable to attend for reasons other than TRJ cancels Family Camp 2025, the following policy applies. A $25 administrative fee is non-refundable. Cancellations received on or before May 1, 2025 will receive a full refund, less the admin fee. For cancellations between May 2-July 1, 2025, 50% of total fees will be refunded, less the admin fee. There will be no refunds for cancellations after July 1, 2025. All cancellations must be made in writing or by email and take effect on the day they are received. Cancellations are final only when you receive acknowledgment from us.
